Today is the first. It’s been a month now and you have probably made extravagant plans and goals for this odd 13th year. Seize them, and make them emblematic of who you are. If you haven’t done so, this post is to encourage you to begin envisioning your year today. Find your medium of expression,(mine is through writing) and make the time for yourself to reflect introspectively. This blog will give just a few small ideas and tips on how to purify your mind, your body, and your soul in preparation for the ‘great’ year that is waiting on you.
1. Find Seclusion-I think the best way to pull yourself away from the loudness of the world is to find a haven, hidden almost clandestinely from others so that you can think quietly. I grab a short book called patience that leads me into quietness with quotes to distract me from my intractable thoughts that never seem to go away when I need them to. Find this place of solace, of meditation and rest there until you have peace with your thoughts and can begin the day.
“What you think upon grows. Whatever you allow to occupy your mind you magnify in your own life. Any subject that you keep out of your mind tends to diminish in your life, because what you do not use atrophies.” -Emmet Fox
2. Cleanse and Nourish– Naturally, the next or even first thing we tend to do after waking up and “thinking” is to stumble to the kitchen for some food. I’m a health fanatic, whatever you put in your body is going to manifest in multiple ways, good and/or badly. Thus, try a quick detox juice, maybe once a week, or whenever you’re feeling toxic ;). I found a great recipe ironically on the food and wine website- http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/fresh-apple-celery-juice-with-ginger-and-parsley
Another great superfood is quinoa, a grainy rice-like protein-fest filled with all the essential amino acids, and it tastes great with fruit or on salad. Check out this recipe
3. Soul(n)– the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body, and commonly held to be separable in existence from the body; the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part. (dictionary.com)
Now that your mind and body are in alignment and feeling spiffy, take care of that soul of yours. Be careful that your thoughts are dressed in love, because your soul will feel its output and translate the mental snapshots onto your canvas of emotions. There is much to say and advise on the treatment of the soul, but I’ll leave you with a song that I have sanctioned to feed my soul for the day and I will post further thoughts about the soul when they come to me.
